Bye Bye Binky!!!

As of a little over two weeks ago, we are finally rid of "the Binky"!!! Here is my Facebook status from that day - it tells the whole story:

"We did it!!! Connor successfully made it through his first night without his binky! Yay! Yesterday morning Mike asked if we could throw it away and he said okay! Then Connor went and did it himself! (We've tried this before, but he just cried if we even mentioned it!) I thought for sure he'd cry at bedtime when it wasn't in his bed. He did ask for it, but I said "You threw it away, remember? You're a big boy now and don't need it!" Then he just layed down and went to sleep!! I guess he just needed to be ready....:) We'll see how it goes at nap time today! But this definitely was a huge step in the right direction! We do have a couple hidden in my room in case of a big meltdown, but after last night's success, hopefully we don't need them!"

Well it's been over two weeks and no meltdown yet, so I assume that means we're home free! Yippee! Although something funny did happen a few nights ago! When I was putting him to bed, he asked for his binky - which was weird because he hadn't asked for it at all in two weeks! I told him: "You threw it away, remember?" To which he replied: "It's all clean now!" {lol} So then I said: "You're a big boy now and don't need it anymore!" To which he then says: "We need to buy new big boy ones!" {hahaha}Well he was insistent and I wasn't sure what to do because he hadn't asked for them before, but Mike was smart and opened the drawer in Connor's room where we used to keep the Binkies to show him there weren't any. In the drawer though, there were these:

Yes, sunglasses!!! He saw those and wanted them and Mike said, "you want to sleep in these?" to which Connor replied "yes!" SO - instead of the Binky, he was content sleeping in the sunglasses instead! It was SO funny I just had to take pictures! The one above is him when he first lay down - obviously not asleep yet (you can see his eye peering out below them.) When we went to check on him a couple hours later this is what we found:

Completely zonked out with sunglasses still in place!!! LOL
By morning they were folded up in the corner of his bed, so obviously they didn't stay on all night, but still so funny! At least there was no binky meltdown AND he hasn't asked for his Binky again since!
All I can say is....BYE BYE BINKY!!!

1st Pinewood Derby!

Shawn had his very first Pinewood Derby for Cub Scouts on Saturday, April 9th! It was SO much fun! We were lucky to have a friend in the ward - Rocky Chapman (Shawn's friend Dodge's dad) who was so awesome in helping Shawn make his car! We had never done one before and so we had no idea what we were doing and he offered to have Shawn come over and make his car with them! So nice of them! It turned out really cool too! :)

Here are all the cars lined up and waiting to race! It's amazing how creative and different they all are! So fun to see them all together! (Shawn's is #6)

{blurry pic} of the cars lined up and ready to race!

They make it a lot of fun for the kids - having them count down to "go" each time, and telling jokes between races, etc. Here are hte kids enjoying the races! Connor sitting by dad and mom:

Shawn and his friend Coltin (who is actually one of my daycare kids as well).

And Brady (yes, my kids are all crazy posers when it comes to taking pictures - they do it all one their own!)

Shawn's car did pretty good for his first time! He got 4th place once, 3rd a couple times, and even 2nd place once as well! They had this cool entry way for taking pictures with their cars.

After it was all over they gave all the boys an award - Shawn got the "Ready for Take Off" award since his car looks like a rocket! The boys also all got a cool little display board/shelf thing to hang in their room to display their cars. Pretty cool!

It was such a fun time - especially for all the boys! Mike even decided that he would attempt to help Shawn build it himself next year......:)

Spring Sports!

About a month ago Shawn and Brady started their spring sports season here in our neighborhood. Brady is playing soccer {again} - he loves it! And Shawn decided he wanted to try baseball! He is having a lot of fun learning a new sport! I got a few pictures of their first game a few weeks ago. Hopefully I can get some better ones in the next couple week. :)

The first few are Brady playing soccer:

Connor asked "can I play?" and I had to sadly tell him no, not until at least in the fall when he's 3. He loves watching his brothers play and wishes he was out there too! :)

These next ones are of Shawn playing baseball. The first is his team and coach.

Connor again loving to watch - but after a couple hours of sports games, getting a little bored so spending some quality time with the games on mom's phone! :)

I LOVE that our neighborhood has this sports club! Such a fun, cheap, and easy way for the kids to be involved in and learn sports and have some fun with friends at the same time!!
